The Montrose Kiwanis and Lions Community Service Clubs announced their plans for the Montrose July 4th festivities in the April 15, 2026, edition of the Susquehanna County Independent. The big historic news? The Susquehanna County Heritage Trail Committee has been named this year’s July 4th parade Grand Marshall! MANY THANKS to the Kiwanis and Lions for this honor and for recognizing the work of the Committee! The Heritage Trail Committee consists of 20 historical societies, museums, and sites, and their partners, whose main goal is to preserve and share Susquehanna County’s fascinating history. To achieve their goals, the organizations work both independently and cooperatively. Last year, they held their first Heritage Trail event when all locations were open on one day. Due to its success, this event will be repeated this year for two days on October 3rd and 4th. Thank you to South Montrose Community Church for their generous support in allowing Christine Maxey and me to use their space. Organizing the Hometown Hero banners is a big job, and having a place to work makes it much easier. Normally, I do this in my garage, which means I have to bend over or crawl around on the floor. The church provided a comfortable and easy-to-use workspace. We are very grateful for their help! Bob Remington helped me load the banners into my truck. After that, we spent two hours picking up trash from Woodbourne Preserve to Loudon Hill. It encourages us to collaborate in honoring the good things in our community. ... See MoreSee Less
